Yesteryear Collection - Colman's Mustard

Colman's is an English manufacturer of mustard and other sauces, based at Carrow, in Norwich, Norfolk. Presently an operational division of the multinational Unilever company, Colman's is one of the oldest existing food brands, famous for a limited range of products, almost all varieties of mustard.

Launched in 1979 concurrently with the 'Coca-Cola' model, a year after the start of the (Y5-4) 1927 Talbot Van. The Ford 'T' gave Lesney and later Matchbox the facility to produce a range of liveries, all on the same body. The policy was to use liveries contemporary with the age of the van. One of the more famous and expensive pre-productions was the all white 'Colman's Mustard'. These were tampo trial run models using the painted bodies from the then concurrently produced 'Coca-Cola' model. An excellent reference photograph can be found in the 1992 Matchbox Models of Yesteryear Calendar. In order to use the baseplate component for the production of the Y3 Ford Tanker, the tools were modified so that the number Y12 was removed. It should be noted that throughout production the seats remained black and that the plated parts were in a gold/brass colour.

'COLMAN'S' in black with a black bulls head on both sides of van.
'MUSTARD' in red on both sides of van.
Red coachlining.

Variations/Rarities: The wheels can be red 12 spoke, chrome 12 or 24 spoke or gold 12 spoke.
The rear doors can be type 1 or 2.
The baseplate can be found with Y12 inscribed or with no Y number inscription.
There are no rare variations.
